I chose Dana Scully for my portrait from the television show, The X Files. My partner Brittany and I decided that since it is a serious, dramatic show we wanted our portraits to be pretty realistic, and not cartoon-y. We chose to use the brush tool in Illustrator to "paint" our portraits. For our backgrounds we will be doing a smoky/foggy scene, light leaks/light flares, and a shadowy background.
I subscribed to Spoon Graphics blog and got these free downloads. I'm going to use one of the light leaks for one of our backgrounds.
I used one of the light leaks I downloaded from Spoon Graphics and then used the flare tool to create this background. We decided to use the light flare background instead of the other two options because it didn't distract from the portraits and the other two were blocked too much by our subject.
